Located about 10 miles east of the Pacific Ocean, Mira Mesa is an attractive community for young, first-time home buyers. Regional shopping is located at the Mira Mesa Mall near the community park. Schools in the community include five elementary schools, Mira Mesa High School, and Miramar College. There is a significant military and multi-ethnic presence in the community.
